Location: Phoenix, AZ
Designed to evoke the spirit of the Arizona Biltmore Hotel, this highly detailed home was designed with a grid of masonry piers and lintels. Designed like a pavilion, the glazed structure frames views towards the north to Squaw Peak and the south towards the Phoenix City skyline. The copper roof and steel trellis provide shade to the home much like the needles of a cactus. The second level contains a luxurious master suite with his and hers dressing rooms, an exercise room and a massage area. Modern touches include steel windows and doors with mullions that align with the masonry joints at 16″ vertical modules. The inverted butterfly roof conceals the air conditioning and lighting while allowing vertical views of nearby mountain peaks. The subterranean portion of the home is accessed by a hidden stair and features a wine cellar, wet bar, and media room. The focus of the exterior living spaces is a four sided negative edge pool that cascades into a nearby wash. The guest house was adeptly positioned to provide privacy to the outdoor pool area by masking views to the homes across the street. The home was sold in 2007 to former Major League Baseball Star Chile Davis who has been enjoying the house.
